Fort Point Channel, Fort Point Arts Community, Boston, Ma. This sign should say it all, but ironically, it is placed as you are LEAVING the Fort Point neighborhood. Unfortunately, the real estate boom has, and continues to push artists out of this neighborhood that artists gave new life. This neighborhood was originally built by two architects at the turn of the 20th century. These buildings were built on landfill in the port of Boston harbor for warehousing and manufacturing. As those industries faded, 100’s of artists and other creative businesses moved into these buildings. It is now prime real estate, and a new convention center, hotels, and condos have been built, and are continuing to be developed. |

From Downtown Boston, Cross the Fort Point Channel ….. |
(looking east towards the harbor) |
(southwest) toward the A Street artist’s buildings |
Over the Summer Street bridge, towards the Fort Point neighborhood... |
To the right is The Artist’s Building at 300 Summer before its renovation in 1995. Above is a pic to the east to the harbor from our roof deck at that time.
Below are pics from our roof now, in 2007 … all of those hotels to the right were not there 10 years ago. The new Institute of Contemporary Art is that square white building on the water. Our view of the harbor will soon be obstructed by the development of high rise condos. |

(northeast towards downtown Boston) |
(east toward the harbor ) |
(new hotels to the south ….) |
(it can get quite cold and stormy here…)
the new convention center in the (right) south distance ... |

And it can be quite nice, sitting by the harbor in the summer…. |

Or walking down Melcher Street from both angles…. |
Things have changed, and will continue to change, but I still feel so lucky to be here…. |
